How is the ad account health score calculated?
Each of five metrics is scored from 0 to 100, and the overall score is their simple average. The tool takes your CTR, CPC, ROAS, frequency and conversion rate. Every metric has three built-in thresholds: poor, average and good. The tool's built-in thresholds are CTR 0.5%, 1.0% and 2.0%; CPC $3.00, $1.50 and $0.50 (lower is better); ROAS 1.5x, 3.0x and 5.0x; frequency 5.0, 3.0 and 1.5 (lower is better); and conversion rate 0.5%, 2.0% and 5.0%.
Hitting the good threshold scores 100. Between average and good, the score rises linearly from 60 to 100. Between poor and average, it falls in the 20 to 60 range. Worse than poor caps the metric at 20, down to a floor of 0.
How do I read the S to F grade?
An overall score of 90 or more is S, 75 or more is A, and 60 or more is B. 40 or more is C, 20 or more is D, and anything below 20 is F. Each metric also gets a status: 75 and above shows Excellent, 40 to 75 shows Average, and below 40 shows Needs improvement. The radar chart plots all five scores together, so the corner that caves inward is the metric to work on first.
For example, enter CTR 1.5%, CPC $0.80, ROAS 3.5, frequency 2.5 and conversion rate 2.0%. CTR scores 80, CPC 88, ROAS 70, frequency about 73.3, and conversion rate lands exactly on the average threshold for 60. The average is about 74.3, displayed as 74, which is a B, 0.7 points short of an A.
What does this score not tell you?
It ignores industry, platform and budget, so every account is compared with the same thresholds. All five metrics carry equal weight, which means a strong ROAS can still be dragged down by a weak CTR. Treat the grade as a starting point, then go back to Ads Manager to find which ad set is pulling the numbers down.
FAQ
- What data does the ad account health scorecard need?
- It needs five numbers: CTR (%), CPC (USD), ROAS (x), frequency and conversion rate (%). Every field must be greater than 0 before the check can run.
- Where do the scorecard's benchmarks come from?
- They are fixed thresholds built into the tool's code, such as a 1.0% average CTR and a 3.0x average ROAS. They do not change by industry or platform and are not external industry statistics.
- Why does a conversion rate equal to the benchmark only score 60?
- The tool maps its average threshold to 60 points. Conversion rate has to reach the good threshold of 5.0% to score 100, with linear scoring in between.
- What grades can the scorecard give?
- Based on the average of the five metric scores, the grades are S (90+), A (75+), B (60+), C (40+), D (20+) and F (below 20).
- Can I enter CPC in a currency other than USD?
- No. The CPC field and its built-in thresholds of $0.50, $1.50 and $3.00 are in US dollars, so convert other currencies to USD first or the score will be off.
