How much can I save a year by paying for ads with a virtual card?
Annual savings equal your credit card's yearly foreign transaction fees minus the virtual card's yearly fees. Credit card cost = monthly ad spend × foreign transaction fee rate × 12; the rate can be set from 0.5% to 3% and defaults to 1.5%. Virtual card cost = monthly ad spend × provider net rate × 12, where net rate = top-up rate + transaction rate − cashback rate.
The tool also shows the savings percentage and cumulative savings for 1, 2 and 3 years, which is simply annual savings × 1, 2 and 3. Monthly spend can be set from USD 500 to 200,000, and the TWD view converts at a fixed 32 TWD per USD. Card issuing fees are not part of this estimate.
How much does USD 10,000 a month save with a virtual card?
With a 1.5% credit card fee and WooshPay selected, you save about USD 1,680 a year. The credit card costs 10,000 × 1.5% × 12 = USD 1,800 a year. WooshPay's built-in top-up rate in this tool is 0.1%, so it costs 10,000 × 0.1% × 12 = USD 120. The difference is USD 1,680, about 93.3% of the credit card cost, or USD 5,040 over three years.
What provider rates does the estimator use?
It uses built-in rates for 8 providers, for estimation only and not as current quotes. Top-up rates are PST.NET 4%, Wallester 3%, WooshPay 0.1%, Buvei 2.5%, FOMEPay 4%, NOBEPAY 3.5% and Dupay 1.5%. Dash.fi has no top-up fee; the tool applies a 1.95% transaction fee and subtracts 1.5% cashback, for a 0.45% net rate.
If a provider's net rate is higher than your credit card fee, the savings figure turns negative. Providers change their pricing often, so confirm current fees with the provider before signing up.
FAQ
- Does the ad spend savings estimator include card issuing fees?
- No. It only compares the credit card's foreign transaction fee with the virtual card's top-up fee, transaction fee and cashback; issuing fees are not included.
- What foreign transaction fee should I enter?
- Enter the foreign transaction fee your own credit card actually charges. The tool defaults to 1.5% and accepts values from 0.5% to 3%.
- Why is my savings figure negative?
- A negative figure means the provider's net rate is higher than your credit card fee, so the virtual card costs more per year. For example, at the default 1.5%, PST.NET's built-in 4% top-up rate produces negative savings.
- What exchange rate is used for TWD amounts?
- The tool converts at a fixed 32 TWD per USD and rounds the result. It is for reference only; check your bank or provider for the actual rate.
