How are virtual card fees calculated?
The tool splits monthly cost into issuing fees, top-up fees and transaction fees, minus any cashback. Total monthly cost = issuing fee per card × number of cards + monthly spend × (top-up rate + transaction rate − cashback rate). Note that the tool counts the issuing fee every month.
Savings are measured against a credit card, which the tool always prices at a 1.5% foreign transaction fee. Monthly savings = credit card cost − virtual card total cost, and annual savings are that figure × 12. The 8 providers are ranked by total monthly cost, lowest first. Monthly spend can be set from USD 500 to 200,000 and cards from 1 to 50.
Which provider is cheapest for USD 10,000 a month on 5 cards?
Using the tool's built-in rates, WooshPay ranks first at about USD 10 a month. It has no issuing fee and a 0.1% top-up rate, so 10,000 × 0.1% = USD 10. Dash.fi comes second: a 1.95% transaction fee of USD 195, minus 1.5% cashback of USD 150, nets USD 45. The credit card would cost 10,000 × 1.5% = USD 150, so WooshPay saves USD 140 a month or USD 1,680 a year.
Which provider rates are built into the calculator?
The calculator stores an issuing fee and top-up rate for 8 providers. PST.NET USD 2 and 4%; Wallester USD 0.75 and 3%; WooshPay 0 and 0.1%; Buvei USD 1.5 and 2.5%; FOMEPay USD 0.5 and 4%; NOBEPAY USD 1.5 and 3.5%; Dupay USD 0.75 and 1.5%. Dash.fi has no issuing or top-up fee, but charges a 1.95% transaction fee and returns 1.5% cashback. These are the tool's built-in rates; providers change pricing, so confirm with the provider before signing up.
FAQ
- Does the virtual card cost calculator charge the issuing fee once or every month?
- It multiplies the per-card issuing fee by the number of cards and adds it to every month's cost, which is conservative. If a provider only charges it once, your real cost will be lower than shown.
- What credit card cost does the calculator compare against?
- It always uses 1.5% of monthly spend as the credit card's foreign transaction fee, then subtracts each virtual card's total monthly cost to get monthly and annual savings.
- How are the providers ranked?
- Only by total monthly cost, lowest first: issuing, top-up and transaction fees minus cashback. Support, funding methods and card stability are not part of the ranking.
- Does the result account for minimum top-up amounts?
- No. Cost depends only on issuing fee, number of cards, top-up rate, transaction rate and cashback; check any minimum top-up with the provider directly.
